Accessibility Statement
Last updated: June 7, 2025
We believe that everyone deserves access to quality editorial content. This statement explains our approach to web accessibility and how to reach us if you experience any difficulties.
1. Our Commitment
Laenethy Writers Magazine is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to everyone — including people with visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor disabilities. We believe that great writing should be readable by all, and we work continuously to meet and exceed accessibility standards.
2. Standards We Follow
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines are internationally recognised and cover four core principles:
- —
Perceivable: Content is presented in ways that users can perceive, including via screen readers.
- —
Operable: All functionality is accessible via keyboard navigation, not just a mouse.
- —
Understandable: Text is clear, legible, and written in plain language.
- —
Robust: Content is compatible with current and future assistive technologies.
3. Measures We Have Taken
- —
Semantic HTML5 elements are used throughout the site for correct document structure.
- —
All images include descriptive alt text.
- —
Colour contrast ratios meet or exceed WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.
- —
Interactive elements (buttons, links, form fields) are keyboard-focusable and include visible focus indicators.
- —
Forms include clearly labelled fields and accessible error messages.
- —
The search modal can be closed via the Escape key.
- —
ARIA roles and attributes are applied where native HTML semantics are insufficient.
- —
Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
- —
The site does not use content that flashes more than three times per second.
4. Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, some areas are still being improved:
- —
Some older article images may lack descriptive alt text — we are reviewing and updating these.
- —
The rich-text article editor in the admin area is not fully optimised for screen readers.
We are actively working to resolve these limitations.
5. Assistive Technology Support
Laenethy Writers Magazine is designed to work with commonly used assistive technologies, including:
- —
Screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack)
- —
Keyboard-only navigation
- —
Browser zoom and text resizing
- —
High-contrast display modes
