Cookie Policy
1. What This Policy Covers
This Cookie Policy explains how Laenethy Writers, operated by Harbinger Bros. LLC (1309 Coffeen Avenue, Sheridan, WY 82801, USA), uses browser storage technologies on laenethy.com. We are committed to transparency about how we store information on your device and why.
This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which provides broader information about how we handle personal data.
2. What Are Cookies and localStorage?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website you visit. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and to provide information to website operators.
localStorage is a browser-based storage mechanism similar in purpose to cookies, but with some technical differences: localStorage data does not expire automatically, is not transmitted with every HTTP request, and can store larger amounts of data. Like cookies, localStorage is domain-specific — data stored by laenethy.com can only be accessed by laenethy.com.
3. What We Use and Why
Laenethy Writers uses one (1) localStorage item and no traditional HTTP cookies:
| Key | Type | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
hpm_cookie_consent | localStorage | Strictly Necessary | Stores your consent decision (accepted/declined) so you are not prompted on every page visit | Persistent until you clear browser data |
3.1 Why This Item is Strictly Necessary
The hpm_cookie_consent entry is classified as strictly necessary because it is essential to the operation of our consent management function. Without it, we would have no way to remember that you have already made a consent decision, and you would be prompted with the consent banner on every single page load — which would be contrary to the basic usability expectation of the service you have explicitly requested. This storage item:
- Contains no personal identifiers (no name, email, IP address, or device fingerprint);
- Is not transmitted to any server at any point;
- Is not shared with any third party;
- Is not used for advertising, tracking, profiling, or analytics;
- Is accessible only to laenethy.com.
4. What We Do Not Use
Laenethy Writers deliberately avoids third-party tracking technologies, with one narrow exception for anonymous, cookie-less analytics described below:
- Analytics cookies / scripts: We do not use Google Analytics, Matomo, Hotjar, Mixpanel, or any similar analytics service that sets cookies or tracks your behaviour across our site or across the web. We do use Vercel Web Analytics, a cookie-less, anonymous tool that measures aggregate page views only — see our Privacy Policy for details.
- Advertising cookies / pixels: We do not use Google Ads, Meta Pixel (Facebook Pixel), TikTok Pixel, or any third-party advertising or retargeting technology.
- Social media tracking: We do not embed social media like/share buttons or scripts that allow social platforms to track your visits to our site.
- Third-party tracking cookies: We do not load any third-party scripts that set cookies on your device without your knowledge.
- Session cookies for authentication: Our public-facing website does not have user accounts, so no authentication cookies are set for readers.
- Device fingerprinting: We do not collect any data combination designed to identify your device or browser uniquely.
5. Legal Basis for Our Use of localStorage
Under §25(2) of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG) and the equivalent provisions of Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC as amended by 2009/136/EC), storage of or access to information on a user's device is permitted without consent where it is strictly necessary for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the user.
Our single localStorage entry falls squarely within this exemption. The ePrivacy Directive Recital 25 confirms that such “necessary technical storage or access for the sole purpose of carrying out or facilitating the transmission of a communication, or as strictly necessary in order to provide an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user” does not require consent.
6. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party infrastructure services that may process connection data as part of delivering our website:
- Vercel Inc. (hosting) — processes IP addresses and HTTP request data for the purpose of serving web pages. Vercel's privacy policy is available at vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
These services do not set cookies on your device and do not engage in tracking or advertising on our behalf.
7. How to Manage Your Preferences
The quickest way to change your choice — including whether Vercel Web Analytics is active — is to click the cookie icon in the bottom-right corner of the page, available at any time, or Cookie Settings in the website footer. Either one reopens the consent panel, where you can accept, decline, or set individual preferences; your updated choice takes effect immediately and does not require clearing browser storage manually.
7.1 Withdraw Consent via Browser
You can clear the hpm_cookie_consent localStorage item at any time:
- Chrome/Edge: F12 → Application tab → Local Storage → laenethy.com → right-click
hpm_cookie_consent→ Delete - Firefox: F12 → Storage tab → Local Storage → laenethy.com → select entry → Delete
- Safari: Develop menu → Web Inspector → Storage → Local Storage
- Any browser: Settings → Privacy & Security → Clear browsing data → select “Site data”
7.2 Browser-Level Cookie Controls
Most browsers allow you to control cookies and local storage through their settings. Please be aware that restricting storage technologies may affect the basic functionality of some websites (though given our minimal use, the impact on laenethy.com would be negligible).
8. Updates to This Policy
We will update this Cookie Policy if we introduce new storage technologies or change our practices. The date of the most recent update appears at the top of this page.
9. International Applicability
This Cookie Policy is designed to meet cookie and local-storage disclosure requirements beyond the EU/EEA as well, including the CCPA/CPRA (California), the UK GDPR, the LGPD (Brazil), PIPEDA (Canada), the Privacy Act 1988 (Australia), the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 (India), and the Personal Information Protection Act (South Korea). Because we use only a single, strictly necessary local-storage item and the cookie-less Vercel Web Analytics tool described above, no additional jurisdiction-specific cookie consent obligations arise beyond what is already described in this policy.
